Public transport in Herat



Horse Drawn karts are not part of the past in Afghanistan. These colourful sulkies wait for women going to the bazaar or to visit family. In the back of the picture below you can see a mosque being built. One can hardly understand the need of a new mosque, with such a nationwide general emergency background, but even politicians sustaining this point of view have been hardly criticized by the most conservative sectors of Afghan society.






Being cars so expensive some people resort to somewhat funny alternatives… Behind you can see what remains of the Musallah Complex, destroyed in 1885 by the British Artillery, who intended to clear their perspective for a Russian attack that never came.
