THE ZOROASTRIAN TOWN OF YAZD

The Towers of Silence were Zoroastrians used to leave their dead for crows. They believed that burying them or burning them were impure ways of polluting the environment. The practice went on until the beginning of the 20th century.

The air cooling devices we observe across the city are ideal for the desert climate of Yazd.
