During the classic period the whole of Herat district was known by the name of Aria. The area was so prosperous that Herodotus called it “the barn of Central Asia”. Wine was also responsible for the local fame, but don’t hold any hope to find such thing in present day Herat. Today, Herat is a survivor, and exhibits its looted beauty as an orphan…
